One of the most rewarding careers students can consider is nursing. Nursing offers a challenging and stimulating course. Adult nurses have a significant role in caring for people and their families in a wide range of settings. There is a great variety of careers available within adult nursing, and skills learned are valued around the world.

Department Vision:

The Adult Nursing Branch is one of the most important branches in the College of Nursing at the University of Sulaimani. This branch deals with subjects related to the adult population.

Department Mission:

Adult Nursing is one of the essential subjects that helps students learn knowledge and skills regarding pathophysiology, clinical symptoms, diagnosis, and medical and nursing management of diseases in different systems of the human body.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Recognize and describe the prevalent health disorders in adults that affect the following systems: hematopoietic, lymphatic, immune, urinary, neurological, sensory, cardiac, respiratory, and musculoskeletal.
  • Make nursing assessments holistically for the patients and their families, with health problems that involve the systems: hematopoietic, lymphatic, immune, neurological, sensory, respiratory, and musculoskeletal.
  • Analyze the collected data in the patient assessments, in order to design, implement, and evaluate care plans that address in depth the health problems detected, establishing priority criteria, individualizing care, and evaluating the nurse’s performance in the different scenarios.
  • Perform nursing procedures indicated for patient care by using simulation models in the laboratory, according to established protocols, and applying strict security measures and quality standards.
  • Plan healthy lifestyles and self-care, which promote preventive and therapeutic behaviors in adults.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care related to patient safety.

Study Methods:

The method of study in our department depends on various tools such as lectures, practical sessions, hospital and center visits, case presentations, and reports. The assessment is achieved via two mid-term exams, final exams, and essays.

Language:

The language of instruction at the Nursing Department is English for all courses.

Duration:

The duration of study at this department as a part of the College of Nursing is 4 academic years of full-time study.
